114% revenue growth for CanGro through the pandemic

How a small beauty brand capitalised on lockdown to double their online sales

From January 2020 to 30 June, CanGro’s top line sales grew 57%, putting them on the path to 114% annualised revenue growth over the coming year. Felecia Tappenden and Belinda Robinson credit the growth to increasing CanGro’s product collection of Australian made, vegan and “nasty free” beauty products and growth in CanGro’s global distributor networks.

Clearly the brand has struck a chord with customers, the founders are now one of Australia’s fastest-growing online beauty retailers, and appear to be bucking the trend during a global pandemic. 

Since inception with CanGro’s first product, ‘Long Lashes’, the brand’s revenue has increased with the rapid expansion of their product collection and further penetration into overseas markets. The brand’s product line now includes Long Lashes eyelash enhancer, Bold Brows eyebrow enhancer, Hero Hair growth serum, Hero Hair Booster, Beauty Bod Skincare and Beauty Bod collagen. 

Unlike their brands competition, producing in Australia during a global supply chain squeeze has been an advantage, helping the brand to expand globally.  While their competitors have had supply issues and been out of stock, due to import and manufacturing challenges, CanGro’s locally produced products have been of abundance. 

CanGro’s products are available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China, following its sales growth in Australia. Distributors have also been established in Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Scandinavia, with more nations to follow in the coming months. 

CanGro’s online orders have surged during the pandemic as people working from home are unable to go to salons and look for an alternative to help them feel good during this tough period.

The brand plans to continue its growth with continued product development and further global expansion. The founders noted that “We are seeing a huge demand to export our Australian made products with select distributors in Asia, Europe and North America”.  

The brand has handled the growth well, and has continued to raise eyebrows (no pun intended) as it looks to conquer the globe with its sustainable, cruelty-free, vegan beauty products.
