Virtual Day of Skills-Based Service to be Held During National Volunteer Week
SOURCE: Common Impact DESCRIPTION:Common Impact, the national organization that matches companies and nonprofits with proven models of impact for skills-based volunteering, has announced that it will hold a virtual Skills for Cities event on Wednesday, April 21st during National Volunteer Week. Skills for Cities unites corporate professionals with nonprofits for a cross-sector day of skills-based consulting to build their capacity to do good in their communities. The April event – hosted via Zoom – will support organizations across the Midwest, including Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio, as they continue to respond to COVID-19 and begin planning for the post-pandemic recovery period. Common Impact is currently recruiting corporate volunteer teams to take part in the event and work on skills-based volunteering projects focused on nonprofit challenges in areas like finance, marketing, technology, and human resources. “Our first Skills for Cities event of the year is dedicated to building the capacity of Midwest nonprofits as they continue to respond to COVID-19, racial inequity, the digital divide, and other pressing social issues,” said Danielle Holly, CEO of Common Impact. Nonprofit organizations have been operating at this intersection for months, and just as demand for nonprofit services remains high, so does the need to build the capacity and resilience of these organizations, particularly small- and medium-sized community-based nonprofits. They need new strategies for safe service delivery, financial sustainability, crisis communications, and community outreach as the pandemic continues into a second year. Without them, many vital nonprofits will not survive and the communities they serve will suffer even greater consequences. “Corporate volunteers, nonprofit professionals, and local leaders: if each of us brings what we’re really good at to the table, then – together – we can build stronger, more resilient communities,” said Holly. “Through Skills for Cities, nonprofits will gain new insights and fresh thinking for some of their toughest challenges and volunteers will grow their professional and leadership skills, as well as their understanding of their communities’ needs.” For more information or to get your company involved, download this information sheet or email Katie Stearns at kstearns[at]commonimpact.org.
