CENTENIAL, Colo., December 24, 2020 /3BL Media/ - This holiday season, Arrow Electronics employees contributed to food banks and other charities to help families manage the hardships associated with COVID-19.

Nonprofits have reported a 60% increase in demand for food relief in the United States and other countries this year. One third of people now using food banks had not experienced food insecurity before the coronavirus pandemic.  

“In a year of great need in local communities everywhere, it’s more urgent than ever to extend help to those most vulnerable.  We are thankful for the opportunity to do so with our community partners around the globe and are proud of the efforts by our people in bringing others a measure of comfort and relief during this holiday season.” said Chief Marketing Officer Victor Gao.

At Arrow’s headquarters in Centennial, Colo., employees focused their holiday giving on two charities.

Metro Caring is a Denver-area food bank that provides a supermarket-style food pantry for families. It also provides extensive nutrition, cooking and hunger prevention education – including job training and financial literacy classes - to address the root causes of hunger. Increasingly, Metro Caring is adopting technology platforms to provide remote learning access.

Arrow employees also continued their annual support of Neema International, a nonprofit that operates a school and other services in foothill villages around Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  This year, Arrow’s donation supports Neema’s effort to provide COVID-19 kits - including food, masks, and sanitation products - to local families, as well as scholarships for students. 

Arrow’s legal department also worked with the Sock it To Em campaign, which provides socks to the homeless. In addition to socks, employees donated other essential items, including masks, ready-to-eat meals, toiletries and laundry detergent through the Open Arms Food Bank based near the company’s headquarters.

In Asia and Europe, Arrow employees made contributions to food banks and other nonprofits providing essentials to people affected by COVID-19. 

• In Australia and New Zealand, employees contributed food and other necessities as well as making financial contributions. They primarily collaborated with the Salvation Army and Foodbank Australia and Food Bank New Zealand.

• In South Korea, employees contributed food and made financial donations to Seoul Foodbank that serves low-income people in the capital city.

• In Singapore, employees contributed food and financial donations to the food bank, Friends in Kindness. They also contributed PPE and made financial donations to the nonprofit Serving People with Disability (SPD.)

• In Hungary, managers donated funds to the nonprofit Melletted a Helyemich. This organization provides support to families whose premature infants require intensive care.

• In Gdansk, Poland, employees funded a “Noble Package” with the nonprofit Szlachetna Paczka  including home oxygen treatment, winter heating and other necessities for a family in need.
