The first investment is in ‘the study on the next-generation quarantine system against infectious diseases.’ The company and KT have agreed to invest 6 billion won from each body for a 3-year study, focusing mainly on the combination of the ICT and the block chain technology upon the foundation of the 5G infrastructure and smart device penetration rate in Korea. The purpose of the study is to identify the route of spreading of flu and to predict the flue season in advance by using AI, big data and block chain technology to analyze the health data, such as temperature and respiratory inflammation diagnosis, which are measured via IoT devices and recorded on mobile apps. The company representative mentioned that they want to promote research using the ICT in Korea, where the smart device penetration rate is high and 5G infrastructures are sufficient.” He added, “the goal is to reinforce the cooperation with Korea, an exemplar country regarding the COVID-19 case, in the development of the new vaccine and treatment for COVID-19. Moreover, in Korea, an ICT power, various ICT technology are being used to overcome the COVID-19 situation. Some examples include the Corona Map, which allows users to check their risks by viewing the tracking record of the confirmed cases, CT result identification technology, which allows diagnosis of the disease using AI and an application for real-time monitoring and management of the people in isolation or quarantine using the GPS technology. Such rapid response of Korea against the virus was only possible because the country has many competent companies that has been continuously purring efforts on the research and development of the major areas of ICT.
