California Providers Can Now Apply for Health Net Grants to Enroll Eligible Residents in Medi-Cal and More

Health Net announced an availability of $1.8 million in grants to help enroll, educate and retain eligible members in Medi-Cal, the state’s health care safety net program.

Health Net’s 2021 Community & Infrastructure Investment Program will provide grants of up to $100,000 per applicant over a 13-month period.

“Despite increasing unemployment due to the pandemic, eligible people aren’t signing up for Medi-Cal in the numbers predicted due to obstacles that these grants will help to remove,” said Brian Ternan, President and CEO of Health Net of California and California Health and Wellness. “This $1.8 million grant program will help community organizations find and enroll these newly-eligible people so Health Net can fulfill our mission of transforming the health of our communities, one person at a time.”

These grant funds must be used to aid residents to:

  • Inform them of the availability and benefits of health care coverage
  • Help them enroll in health care coverage
  • Assist them as they navigate the system after enrollment
  • Help them with the coverage renewal process

However, innovation is a key benchmark for these Health Net grants. That’s because the national pandemic is prompting providers to pivot away from traditional methods of providing access to care. Through this funding, Health Net will support innovative ways to provide residents this access. A few examples of these innovative efforts may include:

  • A mobile app to help consumers find culturally competent care.
  • Investing in grassroots marketing to meet consumers where they live.
  • Employing innovative technology to help consumers navigate a complex health program.

Proposals are due on November 30 by 5 p.m. PST. Interested applicants can learn about eligibility requirements, grant request specifications and other key information by reviewing the Community & Infrastructure Investments Enhanced Access RFP document here.
