Oleg Kostin, a production manager at New Jersey American Water’s Raritan Millstone Water Treatment Plant in Bridgewater, has received the prestigious Harold V. Florence, Jr. Meritorious Operator of the Year Award from the American Water Works Association, New Jersey (AWWA-NJ) section. Kostin was presented with the award at the annual AWWA-NJ conference last month in Atlantic City.
“It was a complete shock. I was honored to receive this award from my peers,” said Kostin, whose facilities produce and distribute water throughout central New Jersey in Somerset, Hunterdon, Union, Mercer and Essex Counties. “We strive every day to provide safe and reliable water service for the communities that NJAW serves. As a licensed operator I am a steward of public health and of a precious resource. This award is a testament to the hard work of my colleagues who regularly go above and beyond to assure that our customers receive the best product possible.”
Kostin has been with NJAW for 25 years and is responsible for producing the water in the company’s largest water system. He is a T-4 licensed operator and oversees the operational assets that facilitate the production and distribution of approximately 140 million gallons of water to more than 1 million people every day.
The Operator of the Year Award is named for Harold V. Florence, Jr., a licensed water utility operator, mentor, and long-time AWWA-NJ member who is now deceased. It is bestowed annually upon an individual who has brought a higher degree of excellence, learning, initiative and resourcefulness to bear in the operation of a public water supply system.
