ADP, Kia Motors America and Roadside Telematics Corp. Collaborate To Open Up DMS for Industry Leading Safety Innovation

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- ADP, Kia Motors America and Roadside Telematics Corp. announced today a collaborative effort to develop and introduce the RoadMedic(R) Key Registry, a patented database service enabling new vehicle owners to electronically register and associate their emergency contact information with their keys. The RoadMedic Key Registry enables emergency response personnel, including police, fire and medical responders, to gain instant access to vehicle owner emergency contact information after a traffic accident.

A traffic accident can be a stressful, even serious event. Contrary to popular belief it is not always possible for emergency response personnel to obtain quick access to a crash victim's emergency contact information, especially in situations where such information is needed urgently. Today it takes an average of six hours for family members to be identified, located and contacted, according to the Next-Of-Kin (NOK) Education Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing patient care and safety in hospitals nationwide. The RoadMedic Key Registry reduces this time to minutes; it also supports NOK legislation passed recently in California and Illinois, as well as pending federal legislation.

RoadMedic Key Registry data, for vehicles equipped with Automatic Collision Notification (ACN), is delivered to emergency response personnel automatically, in real time, using the 9-1-1 infrastructure. For vehicles not equipped with ACN, which include the majority of new vehicles sold each year, emergency responders simply connect with the automaker's 24-hour roadside assistance call center to instantly access the data.

The collaboration is part of ADP's enhanced strategy to open the DMS to strategic partners in order to provide better integration and wider adoption by the automotive market.

"This collaboration exemplifies that enhanced strategy: a DMS provider, an OEM and a third-party solution provider working together to extend the DMS to provide an industry-leading safety solution," said Mike Sailor, senior vice president of ADP Dealer Services.

The RoadMedic Key Registry represents a strategic step being taken by automakers and their dealers to introduce concierge-type accident aftercare services, designed to provide a seamless continuum of customer care for vehicle owners following a traffic accident. The objective is to reduce the stress and inconvenience after a traffic accident by creating a more efficient and positive ownership experience at a time when vehicle owners can be faced with an array of decisions. These decisions can include making rental car arrangements, selecting an authorized collision repair facility, choosing to utilize genuine repair parts and finding a replacement vehicle if their vehicle is declared a total loss.

"The RoadMedic Key Registry is yet another example of our dedication to safety," said Len Hunt, executive vice president and COO of Kia Motors

America. "Taking care of the customer after the accident demonstrates our total commitment to their well-being."

"The introduction of the RoadMedic Key Registry represents a significant step forward in the evolving convergence of the automotive industry and health information technology in order to improve emergency response for motor vehicle accidents," said Lawrence Williams, president and CEO of Roadside Telematics Corp.

The RoadMedic Key Registry supports the recently released Emergency Responder - Electronic Health Record (ER-EHR) Use Case developed by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. The ER-EHR Use Case identifies the need for on-site care providers to gain real-time access to a crash victim's Personal Health Record (PHR).
